    Hachijo Kohatsu Co., Ltd. was founded by Zennosuke Komiyama in 1947 (Showa 22), shortly after the end of the war.

    The company started with the idea of promoting and disseminating the products of Hachijojima, with three pillars: processing angelica leaves, canning seafood, and shochu production. The second-generation owner, Yoshihito Komiyama, felt a sense of crisis early on about the development of distribution and the decline in the island's population, and was one of the first to start promoting Tokyo Island Sake outside the island.
