For the 15th theartofsake Sake On-nomi, we will be doing something new. We will be doing a virtual sake brewery tour of Kojima Sohonten in Yamagata. They make the Toko and Kojimaya Sake brands. We will also be doing a Full Ginjo Tasting, with 3 different Junmai Daiginjos, 2 of them are exclusive drip-pressed sakes!

Kojima Sohonten has been continuously operating since 1597. They have recently converted to become an all-junmai brewery, and have removed distilled alcohol in their brewing process.

They have a old brewery that has been turned into a museum, and a modern brewing facility. The old brewery was used in filming one of SKII's first commercials!

Watch this video You can check it out from 1:18 at the above link.

The new facility is very well thought out, with a lot of modern equipment. I'm sure participants will enjoy the tour!

We have 5 x 80ml of sample sakes in a tasting flight together. If you wish to purchase any of the individual bottles, they will be discounted for 1 week! (please note, the Toko Ginjo Umeshu is only 500ml)

The Zoom Live Video Conference for the Sake On-nomi will be held on Wednesday, 28 October 2020. The event will start at 8pm. The room will launch at 7:45pm for networking. To join, please purchase our Tasting Set or Full Bottle Set at our website.

Zoom Meeting details will also be included in the tasting sets together with the Sake Details and Tasting notes. If you have any issues, please whatsapp +65 8855 0073.

Please note: the tasting sets will only be sent out during the late afternoon of the event day. We will bottle the samples that day to keep it as fresh as possible.

Pure ginjo aromas that consists predominantly of Melon & Nashi Pear. Juicy with good structure and body as expected from a Junmai Ginjo Genshu.
  2. Toko Junmai Daiginjo
A complex and deep tasting Honjozo from Nadagiku in Himeiji City, Hyogo. It was recently awarded GI Harima status, and they only brew using Yamadanishiki, which the district is world famous for.
  3. Toko Junmai Daiginjo Shizuku
Powerful and pristine aromas of soft melon, pear, hints of green grass. Big and juicy on the palate with a velvety texture and soft umami. Finishes deep, long and elegant.
  4. Toko Junmai Daiginjo Yukimegami Shizuku
Silky, delicate and crisp mouthfeel. Fruity and floral with notes of pear, peach, lychee, it is rich in the flavors of rice and yoghurt and has an excellent balance between sweetness and acidity.
  5. Toko Ginjo Umeshu
Its Ginjo fragrance is so vivid you would forget this is plum sake, and its fruity flavor makes you imagine peaches, ‘La France” (European pear), and young plum.

Kanpai with Kenichiro-San & my sake buddies

Kanpai with Kenichiro-San & my sake buddies Current president Kenichiro Kojima is the 24th generation of the legendary Kojima family. Toko was founded in 1597, making them one of the oldest active breweries in Japan. After the Kojima family became the exclusive purveyor of sake to the famous Uesugi samurai clan, the Kojima family became known as samurai loyalty. Yamagata prefecture is the first to have a "GI" or Geographical Indicator for its Sake. Toko is located in the Yonezawa region of Yamagata, a city known for its warrior legacy.

They are one of the few breweries that i love every one of their releases

@toko_sake brewery virtual tour and tasting They are one of the few breweries that i love every one of their releases. They consistently produce quality sake, including honjozos which they have stopped producing(?). With a diverse range of profiles to choose from, you'll find something for every occasion or fussy drinker.

educational and enjoyable drinking session

What an educational and enjoyable drinking session we had during our time at @interriceasia, a distributor of premium Japanese alcohol in . This was their 15th theartofsake Saké On-nomi. On-nomi comes from the words “Online” and “Nominasu (to drink)” haha in other words it translates to Online Drinking. That’s exactly what we did there via Zoom . We had the privilege of having a virtual saké brewery tour of Kojima Sohonten in Yamagata that has been operating continuously since 1597 They make the Toko & Kojimaya Sake brands and have also recently converted to become an all-junmai brewery.
